Hey, guys! If you are interested in making some paper mache, the first thing you need is the paste! Paste is just the goop you dip the newspaper strips in to build your molds. Of course, I think a better description is "batter" rather than paste. You will see why in a minute! Here is the stuff you need:
1 large mixing bowl
1 mixer with beaters
1 measuring cup
all-purpose flour (the cheapest you can find)
warm to hot water (run this from your faucet)
I have been using a mixer for the sake of time...
2) Put the mixing bowl in the sink
3) Run the tap water until it is warm to hot (no need to boil or do anything fancy)
4) Add water until it just barely covers the flour
5) Mix/blend for about 1 minute; check consistency (not too runny, not too thick -- think pancakes)!
Add a little more flour (about 1/2 cup), then water, and mix/blend. Add water and/or flour until the consistency is like pancake batter. You should be able to pour it (almost like you were spooning it onto a griddle for pancakes)!
This mixture will NOT dry clear. It looks off-white to yellowish, and that is how it will dry.
